Island Derby Clashes Promises Early Christmas Crackers
It’s Canvey that steals the show this weekend as our area’s oval and spherical footballing sides seek to get into the Yuletide spirit a week early.
It’s at Tewkes Creek where one of rugby’s matches of the day is. In London North East 2, lowly Canvey Island, looking to ignite their lacklustre campaign, will be all fired up when high flying Basildon visit, trying to consolidate on their splendid third position.
Derby matches being what they are, though, predictions are out of the window, except that it should be an enthralling encounter. That also applies further along the A13, where London 1 North leaders Thurrock take on Brentwood. Another great game is very much in prospect at Blackshotts.
In football, all eyes will be at Thames Road. Concord Rangers, fresh from a marvellous 2-1 win away at Lewes, bid to pull clear of the Ryman Premier drop zone. They have a tough task, though, in the shape of league leaders Billericay Town. With both clubs hitting form recently, this could and should be an absolute cracker.
In Ryman One North, another match between nearest and dearest neighbours could be the most intriguing of all. This season’s surprise packet Tilbury make the short trip to Mill Field, hoping to further their play-off credentials at the expense of free scoring Romford.
Here’s a full lst for this weekend’s action should you want to support your local side – or simply get away from Christmas shopping!
