FULL TIME (again):  And there ends the evening in typically dramatic fashion.  Well done Daggers on a brilliant replay win against the odds.  South Essex’s love affair with the FA Cup this season continues!  After Southend’s disappointment, this is the perfect antidote.  Well done to everyone at Victoria Road.  A tasty derby with Millwall in the 3rd round awaits.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the coverage tonight.  It’s the last set of matches before Christmas this weekend so we’ll make the most of it then.  Until that time, enjoy the week, and your football, and if you’re a Daggers fan, enjoy the FA Cup.

PENALTIES:  Get those fingernails at the ready, this is going to be tense.

Walsall  1-0  Dagenham & Redbridge

Walsall  1-1  Dagenham & Redbridge  (well done Micky Spillane)

Walsall  1-1  Dagenham & Redbridge - SAVED!  Get in there!

Walsall  1-1  Dagenham & Redbridge – SAVED!  Yes!

Walsall  1-2  Dagenham & Redbridge (That’s the way Medy Elito)

Walsall  2-2  Dagenham & Redbridge

Walsall  2-3  Dagenham & Redbridge  (Brian Woodall does the trick, 1 each left)

Walsall  2-3  Dagenahm & Redbridge – SAVED!  OH YES!

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE WIN 3-2 ON PENALTIES

——————————

FULL TIME  Yep, it’s penalties.  A great effort by Dagenham & Redbridge against higher league opponents, but Walsall have also done well with just 10 men throughout extra time.  It’s anyone’s call.

118 mins – Late Daggers pressure results in a corner on the right.  It’s an in-swinger but Lee Beevers clears.  Penalties loom.  Gulp.

115 mins – 25 shots at goal between the two sides indicates a pretty decent contest.  But out of all them, just seven have been on target.  Motivation and nerves are strange bedfellows aren’t they.

110 mins – And Danny Green comes on for Peter Gain.

107 mins – Dagenham’s Kevin Maher is replaced by Billy Bingham.  Now there’s a blast from the past.  By the way, in the Essex Senior League, Southend Manor stay unbeaten, defeating Barking 3-0.

KICK OFF!  For the fourth time tonight.  Ahem …..

——————————

HALF TIME  And some more good news!  Confirmation that Canvey are also through in the Ryman League Cup, overcoming Cheshunt 2-0 over at Park Lane.  Oh yes!

105 mins – Ooh, that was a near one!  Jon Nurse turns and shoots but is goalbound effort is smartly saved by Walsall custodian Jimmy Walker.

102 mins – Pretty much even stevens at the moment.  Both sides aren’t shirking from coming forwards.  Plenty of free kicks but nothing clear cut.

98 mins – Walsall’s Adam Chambers has an effort at goal from just outside the box which goes wide of the left-hand post.  Hurrah!

93 mins – Jon Nurse appears to have beaten the offside trap and starts to run through on goal but the assistant ref thinks otherwise.  Bah.

KICK OFF!  Extra time at the Bescot Stadium – and Daggers have a massive, if unfortunate, boost.  Walsall are down to 10 men when, having used all their subs, one of their players has to go off injured.

——————————

FULL TIME:  And a bittersweet night.  Great wins for Billericay Town, who surge ahead at the top of the Ryman Premier, and East Thurrock United, who simply love their cup competitions.  An awful night for Southend, though, who miss out on a dream trip to Liverpool and again have Moshni sent off.  More to come though – extra time at Walsall!

90 mins + 6 – Still playing injury time in Dagenham’s game, no news on Canvey, but the rest are full time.

Injury Time – And getting the prayer mats out for an away goal at Boundary Park.

87 mins – Red card for East Thurrock United  No confirmation as yet of the Rocks culprit, but just a little shine taken off a splendid evening for the Rookery Hill faithful.

85 mins – By the way, Tilbury Reserves are losing 0-4 at Great Wakering Rovers.  But in the FA Cup, Fleetwood will meet Blackpool in a mouthwatering local derby, after they dumped Yeovil out tonight.

80 mins – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 5,  Ramsgate 1  Strikerrrr!  SAM COLLINS gets in on the act now.  Ooh, this will do Covo and the boys a world of good.  The Rocks are rampant, and Ramsgate are really unrampant.

75 mins – Up at the Bescot, Dagenham & Redbridge are still having the better of it against Walsall.  8 shots to 5 tells it’s own story.  Only 3 on target though.  Can the Daggers make one count?

72 mins – Sending off for Aveley  It’s hard lines for Milton as he receives his marching orders.   Billericay, if they weren’t already, are now very much in the box seat.  Whatever that is.

70 mins – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 4,  Ramsgate 1  They think it’s all over …. yes, they do.  Kris Newby from the penalty spot has Shirley put the Rocks into the next round of the League Cup?

68 mins – Ooh, so close!  At New Lodge, Junior Luke bursts through for ‘Ricay, but his point blank volley is brilliantly saved and is deflected away via the post.  Liquid football.

65 mins – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 3,  Ramsgate 1  He’s coveted by Conference clubs, but the Rocks are so happy REISS GILBEY is happy at Rookery Hill as he restores the home side’s two goal advantage.  Oh yes!

62 mins – GOAL! ….. BILLERICAY TOWN 2,  Aveley 1  Get in there!  ONWUBIKO does it again to give Billericay a priceless lead.  Again.  Can they hold on?  We ask again …..

58 mins – GOAL! ….. OLDHAM ATHLETIC 1,  Southend United 0  We knew it was coming, I suppose, but still disappointing.  TAYLOR puts the home side ahead against 10 men Shrimpers.  North face of the Eiger, this one.

57 mins – GOAL! ….. East Thurrock United 2,  RAMSGATE 1  Ooh, a cup classic in store down Corringham way again.  A needless penalty lets the Kent visitors right back in it.

55 mins – GOAL! ….. EAST THURROCK UNITED 2,  Ramsgate 0  He sounds a French sophisticate, but he’s actually a dogmatic Aberdonian, and he obviously likes the typically Grampian conditions.  PETRIT ELBI’s second, the Rocks second, and East Thurrock are in control at Rookery Hill.  Oh yes!

51 mins – GOAL! ….. Billericay Town 1,  AVELEY 1  And wouldn’t you just know it, it had to be an ex Billericay player to equalise and darken the Knight’s mood for the home support.  Game on at New Lodge.

47 mins – Phew, that was a close one!  Kieron Lee looked to have given Oldham the lead against Southend, but is disallowed for offside.  I’ve always liked refs you know.

8.48pm – KICK OFF!  And the second half begins.  Hurrah!

——————————

Half Time  Not too many goals to speak of, but happily have gone our way.  Billericay and East Thurrock are both looking good and all the other sides are well in it, even if Southend really have their work cut out.  Time for a hot chocolate and a bun (thank you, home comforts) before the second half.  Back in a mo.

40 mins – Up at the Bescot Stadium, Dagenham are having the better of it, but without creating a clear-cut opening, with most efforts being long range shots.  Plenty of time to go though.

38 mins – Southend United sending off  Oops.  The Shrimpers task is made that much harder.  Inevitably, it’s Bilel Moshni that’s been sent off after a second yellow.  That spirit of Bob Stokoe is needed more thn ever now.

34 mins – GOAL! ….. BILLERICAY TOWN 1,  Aveley 0  Oh yes!  ONWUBIKO warms the cockles of the hearts of the ‘Ricay faithful by opening the scoring.  That lead at the top is looking better by the minute.

32 mins – Southend United get back to the task at hand and Neil Harris has a header tipped over the bar.

26 mins – Up in the Penines, Anthony Grant follows his team mate into the ref’s book for a foul.  Getting a bit tasty there.

23 mins – Ironic cheers at New Lodge as Aveley’s Sean Bonnett-Johnson, a decent player for Town last season, shoots wildly over.

22 mins – What was I saying earlier about some things never changing?  Southend’s Bilel Moshni gets a yellow card for a vigorous challenge.

18 mins – Southend have definitely upped the tempo.  Harris has a shot put out for a corner and from that Phillips heads over the bar.

17 mins - An early substitution for ‘Ricay.  Edwards has been replaced by Kpaka.

16 mins – Ooh, that was close!  Up at Boundary Park, Bilel Moshni almost gives the Shrimpers the lead but his blistering shot is tipped over the bar.  That’s more like it.

13 mins – Well, there’s a shock.  Up at Walsall, Dagenham’s Kevin Maher gives away a free kick for a somewhat overkeen tackle.  Some things never change.  Happily.

11 mins – At last a bit of action over at New Lodge.  Billericay Town’s Junior Luke has a shot saved.

10 mins – Well, Rocks aside, nothing too much to report.  Ho hum.  Bilel Moshni has had a free kick saved up at Oldham.  Dagenham’s had a couple of efforts.  But very little action in the games involving our non league sides so far.  The blustery wind and soggy pitches are obviously having an effect.

3 mins – GOAL! – EAST THURROCK UNITED 1,  Ramsgate 0  Get in there!  A dream start for Covo’s boys.

7.45pm – KICK OFF!  Oh yes!

——————————

7.40pm – You may be wondering why there is a pic of Sunderland ‘Messiah’ Bob Stokoe above.  Well, not only is it an important FA Cup night tonight, it just so happens that a mate of mine has sadly passed away and one of his fondest memories was seeing ‘Stokoe’s Stars’ return to Roker Park after their fairytale FA Cup win in 1973.   In tribute, in spirit, and maybe in some way inspire our sides to Cup glory.  Here’s hoping.

7.35pm – Southend United Team News:  Can they make it to Anfield?  They will try to get there tonight with: Daniels, Clohessy, Phillips, Barker, Gilbert, Leonard, Grant, Timlin, Mohsni, Sturrock, Harris.  Subs: Morris, Hall, Coughlan, Sawyer, Ferdinand, Prosser & Dickinson

7.30pm – Canvey Island Team News:  The Gulls will try to fly with:  Russell, Ward, Dumas, King, Sheehan, Easterford, Gordon, Kerrigan, Curran, Hallett, Rhodes.   Mathews, Gilbey, Pardoe, Nolan, Heale.

7.25pm – Billericay Town Team News  They go with:  Brightly, Berry, Collis, Luke, Swaine (c), Wild, Chatting, Edwards, May, Onwubiko, Halle.  Subs: Oates, Cousins, Kpaka, Hawes, Ottley

7.15pm – Good evening and welcome from a very chilly Gateway  Towers.  I was due to hotfoot it to Rookery Hill for the latest chapter in the Rock’s cup sojourn but am under doc’s orders to stay warm.  Fat chance though.   The bolier’s broke so no heating tonight here either.

No matter, though, as tonight’s football could be red hot.  Billericay are looking to extend their lead at the top of the Ryman Premier, Daggers will have a tasty local derby with Millwall in the FA Cup if they win, and Southend, well a trip to Anfield beckons should they overcome Oldham.

As ever, keep refreshing this page every few minutes and another evening of
thrills and spills out on the football pitch will unfold.

Game on!
