Basildon United Football Club was founded in 1963 and has had a somewhat chequered history. However, things have changed and the club is semi-professional, successful  and currently in the Essex Football League.
Basildon United had a great season this year. So too did another notable Essex team: Southend United Football Club secured promotion.
Other clubs in Essex have also done well. Braintree Town and Brentwood Town have scored goals aplenty this year and are looking ahead to an exciting season next year. Colchester Town and Grays Athletic have had lots of wins in the last year and look good bets for the year ahead, while Grays Athletic and Thurrock Football Club are putting in fine performances to help fly the flag for Essex!
In short, a good year for local footie fans even though the international shenanigans with FIFA make the beautiful game look sadly tarnished. But never mind, let’s celebrate the turnaround in the fortunes of Basildon United Football Club and hope that the next few years will put the Borough firmly on the footballing map.
