You might possibly have noticed me mentioning in these blogs once or twice just how busy I am and how I struggle to get things done. Well, I surpassed myself last week … and completely forgot to load a blog up !! 🙁 So below will be two playlists to check out and your regular “Recommended Old Gits Soul Nights Out” listing. I am having a Big Catch Up day today with lots of little jobs on a long list to cross off, but the blog is right at the top !
You’ll see from the photo attached that I paid tribute to Billy Paul on my show last Monday, one of the many great singers to have recorded for my favourite label Philadelphia International, and posting that on here brought back a conversation I had with my 12 year old Nathan a couple of weeks back whilst listening to “Three Times A Lady” by The Commodores on the car radio. It went like this :
“That can’t be soul” he said. “Why not ? Lionel Richie sung it, he’s a big soul star!” I replied. His reasoning ? “It’s got no saxophones or trumpets on it and I bet the singer isn’t even wearing a hat – ALL Soul Men wear hats !!”
Well, as you can see Billy Paul IS wearing a hat above – and if you google images of him on the internet, in nearly EVERY photo he is wearing a hat ! So maybe Nathan knows more than I thought …
