Neil Gits Stuck In !

OK, we’ve now got to that lovely stage of the New Year when all last year’s remaining bits and pieces have all been sorted and filed away and it’s time to look forward and see what we can do with 2015 ! I’ve been doing some minor tinkering with my show over the last week, nothing major, just smoothing out a couple of rough edges. The “Short Trousered Soul Track” is getting a minor “re-boot” – I’ve usually picked a chart hit from the 60s or early 70s that I normally remember from childhood, but I’ve broken that “rule” more and more in recent months so now it will be any song from that era that I got to know and love long after its original release, whether it made the Top 40 or not – got a few belters that fit the new “category” lined up already for the coming weeks !

At the other end of the scale, I’ve made a late New Year’s Resolution to consistently call the part of the show where I play a track that’s more recent than the 70s or 80s “The Not So Old Gits Bit” ! It’s been called all sorts of variations on that title over the years, but I can’t think of anything better so there you go ! And for the next few months there will be an extra “NSOGB” as I’ve been stocking up on recent compilations after checking out other DJs on other stations who play some amazing new soul music that I never knew was out there, so now you will hear one tune from at least 10 years ago as usual, plus one from the last two or three years, either by a new artist or someone from the old days making an impressive comeback – believe me, you are in for some treats !

There are two new features this month, I’ve been busy with my treasured USB turntable and recorded some wonderful unplayed Lou Rawls songs as January’s “Featured Artist” and of course while I was at it added a good few 7″ and 12″ singles from my collection to add to the “waiting list”. And with the “Motown Joints Remixed” project finally completed, I’ve started sifting through another large folder of Mp3s sent to me last year of equally exciting remixes & re-edits on work by another major soul, jazz-funk & disco name of the 70s & 80s – first one can be heard this Monday on the new LIVE show at 7pm, but for now get ready to enjoy the repeat play of this week’s show between 5 & 7pm today !
