Gateway 97.8 offer a fantastic array of courses in radio. Below are the courses that we offer the public and indeed schools who wish to offer an extra-curricular activity to students, or to run as a course at our approved training centre.

Radio Broadcasting Level 1

An introduction to radio broadcasting at a community radio station including recording and editing a show that could be used for broadcast.

Radio Broadcasting - Level 2

A more advanced course that features news, traffic, travel and weather reporting, in addition to recording and editing a longer show [90 minutes] that could be broadcast.

Sports Reporting - Level 2

This course provides a valuable insight to sports reporting for radio, the internet and print. It includes sports podcasting and interviewing.

Radio Journalism - Level 2

A good overview of the skills ant techniques of the radio journalist.

Understanding Radio Journalism - Level 3

A practical course designed to give valuable experience of radio reporting within a working radio station. The course includes relevant law and develops an understanding of an employer’s requirements of a radio journalist. .

Introductory Award In Radio - Level 1

A simple introduction to radio production.

Award In Radio Production - Level 1

Learn how to produce and edit programmes for radio.

Radio Production - Level 2

Turn theory into practice with this very ‘hands on’ course.

Certificate In Radio Production - Level 2

A further insight into radio production yielding an A*-C GCSE equivalent certificate to prove your ability to combine theory with good practice.

Extended Certificate In Radio Production - Level 2

This course provides you with a substantial portfolio  of work and information in addition to demonstrating your ability to combine good practice with sound theory.

Diploma In Radio - Level 3

A highly regarded A Level standard course to equip successful students with a diploma demonstrating an important range of radio skills. Includes an understanding of programme planning, station management, radio journalism and technical issues.

Entry Level 3 Award In Preparation For Event Volunteering

An  entry level award to prepare volunteers for work at various events.

Level 2 Award In Volunteering

This course considers the various factors that must be taken into account by those managing events. Risk analysis, crowd control, health & safety, scheduling and coordinating team activities.
Courses start from £175 per person and most run Monday to Friday with a 1 hour lunch break. Level 1 courses are suitable for people with little or no experience in the subject, levels 2 & 3 may require some experience/prior knowledge.
