Neil Gits Away To Cornwall

It’s that time of year again ! Another year older and another birthday road trip to indulge in, eating, drinking (Coke/Pepsi of course!) and listening to fab soul CDs in the car en route ! Except this time I went a week early due to a window of opportunity on the home/work front and planned a night at a BnB in Newquay after a nice long drive cross country with a scenic route to be followed home on Saturday with many stops along the way. Although the journey there went well, no major traffic problems and good driving weather, the minute I...

FOOTBALL Manchester City have now released the news of the sacking of manager Roberto Mancini after a year to the day when they won their first Premier League Title on that action paid day. The Italian had only been in charge at the club for 3 and a half years and there has been a mixed reaction about the news. Former Manchester City and England Defender Andy Hinchcliffe said that the decision to sack Mancini was a ‘harsh’ one but not everyone was as lenient. After every sacking the drama begins on who will be their successor at...

Snooker Sports News Written by Alex Smith First of all we will have a little discussion on snooker with Basildon born Stuart Bingham earlier in the month making it to the quarter final of the Snooker World Championship. Shamefully he was knocked out after being thrashed by that years championship winner, Ronnie O’Sullivan by 13-4. Despite that Bingham has still managed to reach 6th in the Snooker World Rankings after a truly amazing season from the Basildon boy, which is the highest ranking position he has ever reached within the...

Having been thrashed by Hampshire in their opening match, the Eagles responded with a 4-wickets success against Durham Dynamos at Chester-le-Street and Head Coach Paul Grayson was delighted with the application and character shown by his side in the success. “It...

Essex Spartans American football team saw their early-season struggles continue with a 0-14 home defeat at the hands of the Milton Keynes Pathfinders. After dropping their first two games, the Billericay-based Spartans welcomed the Pathfinders looking for their first win of the season. In an ill-tempered and scrappy game, Essex had Aaron Millar to thank for ensuring the opening quarter ended scoreless with his block of a Pathfinder field goal attempt. After the teams traded interceptions, Nick Mayer snagging his first of the year for the...

Neil Gits Into Salsa !

A couple of weeks ago I was DJing at a party in Chelmsford which finished quite early, so when loading the car up again afterwards, the function in the larger downstairs hall was still in full swing. It was a Salsa Event and as I lugged box after box of gear past the main door I couldn’t help but hear some fabulous sounds coming out from in there – or fail to notice the lovely ladies attending either ! Just before I left, I got chatting by my car to a particularly gorgeous creature who was “taking a breath of fresh air”...

Neil Gits A Double In…

No, I’ve not succumbed to the demon drink – though a few things that have had to be dealt with over the last week or two would drive any virtual teetotaller like myself to the bottle ! There’s a few new events in there since last time, so have a good browse and see if anything soulful is heading your way ...

Neil Gits Arty…

Got back in the old routine this week after two weeks school hoildays – bliss ! Having said that, Nathan and I did get a chance to do one or two things we can’t do in term time and that included finally getting a chance to pop in (as opposed to walking past…) the Basildon Art Gallery just across the way from our studios at Gateway 97.8FM . Usually it is long shut when we are in the Eastgate Centre for the show, but we found ourselves in town last week and couldn’t resist taking a look at some of the interesting works of...
