Firefighters charity car wash – Saturday 1st June

A BASILDON student who hopes to spend her life combating global warming has won a week-long stay at an American university. Dannie Slade, 17, will visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the summer. The teen, who studies law, psychology, geography and Spanish at Palmers College, is one of 50 students from across the UK who won a place on the trip. Firefighters were called to an alert inside Lakeside shopping centre, West Thurrock, after a smoke canister was set off in a shop and filled the shopping centre’s Debenhams end with smoke. The building was evacuated by centre staff just after 9:10pm on Tuesday, 7 May 2013, at the north end of the shopping centre, near to Debenhams. A second man has appeared in court and has now been charged with the murder of a 35-year-old man in Grays on March 10. Liam Holden, died after being attacked outside the Euro Lounge nightclub, where he had been spending a night out with friends.
