“Canvey Flood” a radio documentary put together by the Kents Hill Junior School Radio Club has won a prestigious Sony Schools Radio Award. In the industry, a Sony Award is often deemed as a Radio Oscar – many top radio presenters have won Sonys over the years and it is highly respected. The Radio club, started by parent volunteer Michelle Durant was run once a week in the school lunch break and started off doing road safety adverts before attempting the documentary project. The Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside and Gateway 97.8′s Battle of the Bands competition has received twelve entries this year, and they will each have to battle it out in the live heats on Sunday 18th and 25th March between 4pm and 6pm. Stephen Horgan, deputy leader of Basildon council and ward councillor for Billericay West passed away aged 47, after a nine year battle with cancer. Mr Horgan (pictured left at the Basildon Sporting Village), who was also cabinet member for regeneration, passed away after his condition worsened in the past week at Basildon Hospital. Our Friend Esther the Vicar at our local church in Basildon was picked and won the Platter Competition we ran over the Christmas period last year, meaning that the food she won went to her charity that feeds the homeless. Armed with great gifts from the Platter company she held an event in the church hall at St Martins, and the homeless enjoyed the food provided.
