Neil Gits Surrounded By Women !

If you missed out on any fun to be had on Bank Holiday Monday – don’t worry, there’s another one in just over three weeks time ! And if you missed out on hearing my special “Old Gits Girl Groups Soul Show” then you just have to wait until Saturday at 5pm to listen to the weekly repeat ! I got a really good response this week and felt the show was so good, I’ve taken Saturday night off just to listen to it all again myself … ;-) Normal service will be resumed on Monday and for the next three weeks and...

Neil Gits Some Variety On …

What a mixed bag of tunes I brought in to the studio this week ! The show took many twists and turns, leaping from one side of the dancefloor to the other and back again as we went on another magical journey through the world of 70s & 80s soul, jazz-funk& disco … and then some ! I wouldn’t know where to start to pick out some highlights, so just take a look at the playlist below for some idea and make sure you tune in at 5pm this evening (Saturday) to hear the repeat play.   *Bank Holiday Monday Special At 7pm : The...

Neil Gits The Flags Out

I was quite disappointed with the low number of St Georges Flags being displayed around our area whilst driving out and about last Monday – I think I was the ONLY person proudly flying them on his car all day and saw very few being displayed on private properties, but well done to the several shops and business in and around Wickford who had the famous red cross on display ! To mark England’s National Day, it was a “Full English” show and if you didn’t mark the occasion yourself and now feel guilty for your...

Neil Gits Patriotic…

Happy St Georges Day to you – I hope you’re marking the occasion somehow, even if its just by hanging an old Euro 96 flag out the window or maybe attaching one of those £1.99 plastic things from the garage on the car ! Here at TOGSS, I’ve decided to knock up a special “Full English” edition of the show to go out for the first time tonight at 7pm, though it won’t be “live” as i am hosting a quiz night for the Big Day at The Olde Dog in Herongate – you can listen to the show on the way...

Neil Gits Down With “The Bands Of Soul” …

As promised, this week’s “Old Gits Soul Show” featured some of the great soul jazz-funk & disco outfits of the 70s & 80s – and I have to say I was pretty pleased not just with the way the show turned out, but with the response it got, especially from a few people who were clearly chilling after the rigours of a weekend of soulful hard partying ! So if you missed it on Monday, worry not – the repeat play is on this evening at 5pm – and look out for another “special” in two weeks time to...

Neil Gits Set For Easter

Neil Gits Set For Easter

There are two chances to enjoy some “Cool Soul” over the holiday weekend. First of all there is a second chance to hear last Monday’s programme when it is repeated at 5pm on Saturday and includes, amongst the usual two hours of quality soul, jazz-funk & disco, the first tracks from this month’s featured compilation album “Motown Rare Grooves” as well as some “Short Trousered Soul” which was the first ever UK hit single by a group who went on to become one of my favourite Philly acts. The full...

Neil Gits Forgetful!

Whoops ! In an exceptionally busy week last week, I completely forgot to update my “Cool Soul” blog – bet you were really worried, huh ? Never mind, all is well and I am all ready and raring to go with tonight’s brand new show which includes loads of fab tracks by the likes of Chaka Khan, The O’Jays, Luther Vandross, The Commodores, Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Be E King & The Jacksons. Tune in this evening from 7pm to hear which songs I’ve chosen and I will be back on here before the weekend with the...

Neil Gits Served By Lil Lisa

I find that the best “Old Gits Soul Shows” are the ones that are preceded by a good feed up at one of the many local pubs or restaurants and with Gateway being based in the Eastgate Centre, several options are a short walk away from the studio. One of our favourites is Nando’s in the food court and this week not only did we enjoy some fab tasty chicken and chips, we also got served by the lovely “Lil Lisa” who must be the tiniest waitress in the whole of Basildon ! She is also one of the friendliest and with a...

Neil Gits Down To Business

No mucking about this week – this evening’s repeat play of “The Old Gits Soul Show” is all about some fabulous quality soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 70s & 80s…and then some ! Four tracks from the famous Philly label on the show today, starting straight away with an all-time classic, then later on a 1980 cut that sounds uncannily like one of the biggest disco hits of 1979 and the official “Philly Dips” in hour two are of a jazzy nature. Motown gerts a look in too with a couple of...

Neil Gits Out The Big Guns

It’s all about the tunes this week (and the Lockets & the Soothers too actually…) ! Squeezed in a couple more cuts than usual somehow and alongside those almost forgotten one-off gems, there are plenty of major names with cult & classic tracks. We dip into the 1977 “All n All” LP for some vintage Earth, Wind & Fire, there are 80s hits by Aretha Franklin & The Four Tops to enjoy, a minor success for the Whispers which is every bit as good as their big ones, a request for one of the great Temptations...
