19 year old Alex Short lead for large parts of the 10km English Cross County Championships at Woolaton Park, but eventually finished 5th, admitting that he got his tactics wrong, costing him the chance to win the race. He said that he found it so heavy going that He almost came to a stand-still in the mud.
Alex commented that it was a great experience and the size of the crowds along the route were just amazing and to be part of that was fantastic. This was the final race of Short’s junior career and is now turning his attention to the track season.
In the same championships, 25 year old Adam Hickey unfortunately started to feel unwell after a few laps and could not keep up with the leaders, but refused to drop out and eventually finished 12th.
He was checked over by the on-site medical staff and was found to be suffering from an inflamed lung. He said that this would not stop him from competing in the UK intercounties cross-country championships next weekend.
