Happy Saturday!
My thanks to Aris for covering for me last week. I had the pleasure of attending The Radio Hub’s Workshop hosted in Kent by SFM. We learned a lot about the rules of broadcasting – and I discovered over 100 new forbidden words and phrases that I never knew existed! We actually have them on a convenient print out available in the Gateway studios now…
Saturday the 29th of October turns out to be Internet Day and Cat Day; both of which are just excellent.
Anyway, what happened this week on the show? It’s all below:
In your local events guide:
- Hazel Morley Memorial Quiz Night @ W I Hall, St Edith’s Lane, Billericay, CM12 9LL
7:30pm – 11:30pm | £5 entry
It’s a bring your own drinks and nibbles quiz night for teams of up to 8 people. - Halloween Fun Quiz @ Westcliff British Legion Club, 7-9 Northview Drive, Westcliff, SS0 9NG
8pm – 11:30pm | £2 entry
Again, it’s a nice relaxed quiz night consisting of teams of 8 or less – but be sure to take drinks and snacks! - Howling Black Souls & Rollin Machine @ Peggy Sue’s Music Bar, 1063 London Road, Leigh, SS9 3JP
8pm – 1am | FREE entry
With 2 fantastic covers bands tonight influenced by a range of genres.
Here are the strange stories I mentioned this week:
- How complaining about scratchcards won an American woman $1 Million
- How seeing the Queen shopping for cheese in Waitrose is quintessentially British
- How a man convinced his other half to tattoo his name on her forehead
- The Halloween-themed pizzas from Morrisons
On this day in music:
- 1983, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of The Moon marked its 491st week on the Billboard album chart in the US
- 1987, David Bowie played the first night of his 15 date Glass Spider Tour in Australia and New Zealand
- 1996, Manchester band The Stone Roses split up
In your celeb birthdays, we have:
- Fleur East, 29
- Randy Jackson, 55
- Richard Dreyfuss, 69
For your trip back in time:
A classic; I played Culture Club – Church of The Poison Mind. You can see the video below:
This reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart back in 1983 – and it still sounds great when you hear it today!
Tonight, Cineworld Basildon are showing:
- Doctor Strange – 12A
- Jack Reacher: Never go back, 12A
- Trolls – U
And, tonight on the telly-box:
