Great British pub awards 2019

Experts have scoured the country, clocking up over 16,000 miles, to create the definitive list of the UK’s best pubs, naming 19 across a range of popular reasons to visit – from best for beer, best pub garden or which is serving the best food. The judges have also argued it out to crown one of these the overall Great British Pub of the Year.

The pub taking that title, fending off strong competition from other winners on the list, is Devon-based pub, the Cott Inn, a Greene King pub located close to Totnes in the South West. The Cott Inn has been a licensed premises since 1320 and impressed the judges with its blend of the ancient and the modern. The site has been run by Mark Annear and his wife Mel Hard for over nine years now, and they’ve built an impressive operation offering everything from great food and drinks, to fantastic accommodation in a beautiful setting.

The Great British Pub is an institution, recognised globally as much of a British icon as David Beckham, James Bond or the Queen. They offer the venue for every family occasion from weddings through to funerals, Friday night football with mates to Sunday roast with gran.

Aston spoke to Ed Bedington, editor of the pub trade from morning advertiser to discuss who were the big winners at this years “Great British Pub Awards 2019”.
