Motorsport update – 12th October

Below is the latest news from the motor sporting world.

F1 Turkish GP:

  • 1st: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes),
  • 2nd: Max Verstappen (Red Bull),
  • 3rd: Sergio Perez (Red Bull),
  • 4th: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari),
  • 5th: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

Highlights:

  • Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas earned his first win since Russia 2020 by winning the Turkish GP in damp/wet conditions,
  • Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly finished 6th despite picking up a 5 second time penalty for colliding with Alpine’s Fernando Alonso on the opening lap,
  • Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was voted driver of the day after starting 19th and finished the 58 lap race in 8th after pulling off some daring overtakes on many drivers,
  • Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel finished a dismal 18th after changing onto the slick tyres for a brief period to see if the Istanbul Park Circuit was dry enough however switched back onto the Intermediate Tyre’s.

Race 1 Top 3:

  • 1st: Gordon Shedden (Halfords Racing With Cataclean)
  • 2nd: Dan Lloyd (Power Maxed Racing),
  • 3rd: Rory Butcher (Toyota Gazzo Racing UK)

Race 2 Top 3:

  • 1st: Gordon Shedden (Halfords Racing With Cataclean)
  • 2nd: Tom Ingram (Excelr8 Trade Price Cars)
  • 3rd: Rory Butcher (Toyota Gazzo Racing)

Race 3 Top 3:

  • 1st: Colin Turkington (WSR Team BMW),
  • 2nd: Jake Hill (MB Motorsport Accelerated By Blue Square)
  • 3rd: Aiden Moffat (Laser Tools Racing)

Biggest Talking Point

  • Race 1 collision at Old Hairpin between Adam Morgan (Ciceley Motorsport) and Jake Hill (MB Motorsport) meant that Morgan retired on the spot after his BMW 3 Series sustained huge damage.

Bank Of America Roval 400 Top 3:

  • 1st: Kyle Larson (Chevrolet),
  • 2nd: Tyler Reddick (Chevrolet)
  • 3rd: Chris Buescher (Ford)

Biggest Taking Point: Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick collided once again this time at Charlotte on the exit of the infield section of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course.

Drivers eliminated from the playoffs: Kevin Harvick, Christopher Bell, William Byron and Alex Bowman.
