It may only be July but the countdown to the Towngate Theatre Christmas pantomime is officially underway, following the announcement that Basildon favourite Simon Fielding is set to return for this year’s production of Peter Pan.
The month long panto opens on the 5th December and follows last year’s critically acclaimed production of Dick Whittington.
Councillor Kevin Blake, cabinet member for leisure and arts at Basildon Council said: “We have made no secret of the fact that the annual pantomime is incredibly important to the success of the theatre, and over the past few years the Towngate team has worked incredibly hard to establish itself as one of, if not the best panto in the County.
“Simon has played a major role in helping us set the bar extremely high, and the pressure is now on to make sure this years show is the best yet.”
Simon who will be both starring and directing the production said: “I am absolutely delighted to be coming back to the Towngate and really feel at home here.
“It’s a beautiful theatre to work in, and the audiences in Basildon absolutely love pantomime and enjoy getting into the spirit of the show. As ever we will have something for everyone, and of course a few tricks up our sleeves.”
Tyler Pittaway and Laura Anderson went to speak to Simon Fielding themselves, and if you missed it on Drivetime with Jack Sullivan, then here’s another chance to hear it again:
Peter Pan runs at the Towngate Theatre from the 5th December until the 7th January. Tickets are available from the Box office on 01268 465465 or via Towngate Theatre website.
