It has been something of an unusual week with the usual things happening on different days of the week at different times of day, routine jobs put to one side for another seven days and other stuff to deal with that doesn’t normally come into the equation and all with young Nathan in tow – yes it was “Half Term Week” !! But no day was stranger than Monday when I popped down to Asda for some supplies only to come back and find a commotion outside my front garden with an assortment of neighbours, police, paramedics and passers-by all peering curiously at my hedge. As I got closer I realized there was a stricken cyclist and his bike wedged into it – and neither was in a good way ! Hopefully he is OK now, but it took the assembled party nearly an hour and a half to disentangle him and cart him off to hospital on a stretcher, during the course of which the main feature of my front of house was reduced from a big thriving bush to a tiny little shrub surrounded by a pile of twigs ! Not terribly concerned by the unexpected community gardenng project of course – and as Nathan said “Well, that saved us a job this year!” – but it was a truly surreal, totally unexpected moment for anotherwise routine Monday afternoon after which I trotted off to Basildon and did my show as though nothing had happened …
