Going by the official title of my Cool Soul Show (“The Old Gits Soul Show”) it will come as no surprise that I don’t exactly embrace many of the ways of the modern world, including some of the ridiculous practices thrust on staff in the retail / business world. But even back in 1988, when I used to date a girl who worked at Woolworths in Chelmsford, I remember her telling me of how the staff there were instructed to always greet customers with a “Warm Fuzzy”, presumably meaning “smile & be friendly” – so silly jargon in the work place is not a new thing ! Last Monday, whilst sitting back in the studio presenting the live show after a particularly satisfying visit to Nandos, I found myself thinking “I’ve got a nice warm fuzzy glow this evening” no doubt brought on by a generous slice of the world’s best ever chocolate cheesecake! But it could well have been due at least 50% to the splendid selection of soul, jazz-funk & disco I was sharing with my listener – see if the tunes have the same effect on you by bending an ear to Gateway 97.8FM this evening from 5pm when we do it all over again….
