I think most of us living anywhere near the Dartford Crossing will at one time or another have got stuck trying to get over the bridge or through the tunnel in an almighty jam. Sometimes it gets so bad that you can get caught up on nearby roads and junctions simply passing through the local area. And on Friday it was my turn !

I had a few errands to run and after visiting someone in Aveley needed to get back on the M25 for the next part of my trip – wrong place, wrong time ! I was stuck trying to get over the big roundabout near Thurrock Services for an hour and a quarter after the bridge was shut as I approached the junction and the whole area instantly froze solid with cars and lorries.

Thank heavens for soul music ! I had a good supply of CDs in the car with me (and a fair amount of petrol in the tank!) so I was OK, just a bit achy legged at the end of it all when the road re-opened and the congestion very slowly eased. Don’t forget Gateway gives out excellent traffic reports from our area, including the crossing approaches so tune in early on Monday for my show and make sure your route home is clear – failing that you can just sit in your car listening to 97.8FM enjoying my two hours of soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes form the 70s 80s & beyond !! 😉
