I normally plan my show playlist out meticulously, so I know exactly what songs I am playing and when, leaving me free on the night to concentrate on pushing all the right buttons in the studio and come up with something vaguely intelligent to say in between. One week I actually managed to do all three things together! This time however, for some weird reason, I decided to keep chopping and changing the tunes around, but damn good tunes they are as you can see from the selection below. The highlights this time are possibly the full length album version of a Philly classic for the Tasty 12″, a cool slice of vocal Jap-Jazz from the 80s, a “Soul Smoothy” on Motown from the early 90s and a Solar act that weren’t quite as successful as Shalamar or The Whispers but had that same great sound ! If you listen carefully you can also here rock stars Richard Marx, Michael McDonald, Don Henley and the bloke from Chicago harmonizing on one of the other tunes too – I like to keep you on your toes …
