Neil Gits Philly Fever !

Thankfully, I seem to have avoided some of the cold & flu bugs that have been going around over the last week, but I still wasn’t really firing on all cylinders, so for this week’s show an increased dosage of soul tunes from my favourite record label was self-prescribed ! Five tracks from Philadelphia International feature on tonight’s repeat play at 5pm including another airing for on of my Top 10 tunes EVER – “Soul City Walk” by Archie Bell & The Drells. People’s Choice weren’t quite as prolific as other names on the label, but their two big hits are still both irresistable to this Old Git’s twitching toes (can’t quite stretch to “dancing feet” these days !) and you will hear one of those two monsters just after the “Recommended Old Gits Nights Out” listing part one. I also couldn’t resist flipping my 7″ vinyl copy of Dexter Wansel’s “All Night Long” after playing the crackly B-side “Disco Lights” last week and the second of the two “Soul Soothers” on the show is by a virtual unknown name to me, though I must have heard him sing backing vocals on a James Brown track or two. Making up the Philly Five is Robert Upchurch, again a name I wasn’t immediately familiar with, but he was a member of the Trammps in their 70s heyday.
