After a busy summer juggling various work & family commitments, it was business as usual on the show this week – and that meant raiding the Neil Matthew Record Library and giving some cherished vinyl soul an airing! Amongst the 12″ gems that you might not have heard for many years (if ever!) was one by JAMES BRADLEY who made one LP for Malaco Records in 1979 at the height of the disco era and put out the inevitably OTT disco track “I’m In Too Deep” as a single. Thankfully, the super mellow soul tune “I Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love” also got prominent billing on the sleeve as a “B/W” track, and that’s the one you’ll hear this Saturday on the repeat play…
SONNY CHARLES is another name no doubt unfamiliar to the masses, but his song “Put It In A Magazine” was a real “must-have” for soul jocks in the 80s and I was thrilled to pick up a copy of the album cheap so I could tick it off my wants list! On the other hand THE WHISPERS are a very well known name to anyone who ever got down on a soul/disco dancefloor in the late 70s/early 80s, but they did some fabulous ballads on their LPs too, “Say You Would Love For Me Too” being one of the best. It is from my much played 1981 “Imagination” album which also contains “It’s A Love Thing” and took a fair bit of tidying up before the MP3 was fit for radio play ! One further highlight on the show this week was “Love Scared” by LANCE ELLINGTON. I’ve never watched “Strictly Come Dancing” but apparently these days he is the resident singer on there – I was only aware of him for his excellent “Pleasure & Pain” LP from 1990 which I loved back in the day and thanks to Kim for choosing this tracks and reminding me of it – been singing the song all week now!!!
So, on to 5pm Saturday evening and a second chance to enjoy all these tunes and many more…
