There have not been too many of our legendary “Big Days Out” this summer holidays, but last Friday Nathan and I did get down to Portsmouth to visit our friends who live on Hayling Island and this time we actually arranged to meet them at Southsea, a lovely little seaside area of the city where as well as enjoying the usual rides, amusements and crazy golf, etc, you can also watch the hovercrafts at close quarters going back and forth to the Isle of Wight, clearly visible on the horizon across the Solent – not something you can do in Essex !
After a couple of hours of fun and games in the afternoon there, our friends met us ready to whisk us off for something to eat the other side of the city – they always know somewhere special and quite different and this time they surpassed themselves, taking us to a Casa Brasil, an amazing restaurant where you pay a set price and can not only help yourself to a Harvester style big buffet of salad and more (including chicken wings, meatballs & stew!) but also get served unlimited slices of meat at your table by ultra-friendly waiters (Toby Carvery eat your heart out !). Nathan enjoyed it so much that half-way through he insisted on fetching his slightly grubby Brazil football shirt from the car to wear to “fit in” and get even more attention from the staff as they kept the chicken, gammon, turkey, steak, beef, pork and sausages coming, all with delicious coatings and flavours. I did resist the kangaroo steak they offered at one point – but even so have never felt so stuffed !!
What’s this all got to do with soul music ? Absolutely nothing ! It just gave me a chance to use an eye-catching title for this week’s blog as I remind you to listen to a repeat play of my show at 5pm this Saturday … 😉
