Neil Gits Some Top Soul Tunes On !

It’s all about the music this week ! Not too much to report on in my life outside the studio, just the same old same old, so let’s point you in the direction of some of this week’s show highlights. Glen Goldsmith is a name you might recall from the late 80s when he had pop-soul hits with tracks like “Dreaming” & “I Won’t Cry”, then in the 90s he achieved more Top 40 success as the writer of some of Peter Andre’s best known songs including “Mysterious Girl”. But in 2014 he is back behind the mic with a gorgeous song called “London Skies”, released back in August and sounding even cooler in a “Soul Talk Remix”.

Along with J-Ski (Jay Negron) and Tom Moulton, Greg Womack was behind many of the classy re-edits & remixes and remixes I’ve featured on my show in the last couple of years. Sadly he passed away a few weeks ago, but you can still hear his work on tracks like the Jackson 5’s “Especially For Me” which is a terrific slice of mid-70s disco, nicely extended in Greg’s “Afrodeziac Remix”.

And whilst on the subject of Motown stars, I’ve got a song from Stevie Wonder’s ex-missus on the playlist this week ! Of course, Syreeta was a top recording artist in her own right, her big solo UK hit being “Your Kiss Is Sweet” in 1975, plus she was one half of the duo that recorded the epic ballad “With You I’m Born Again” along with Billy Preston in 1979. But you can hear how she sounded in 1990 on a track she recorded for Ian Levine’s “Motor City” label, which persuaded many Motown names back into the recording studio in the late 80s/ early 90s . We lost Syreeta in 2004, but you can hear her song and many more fabulous memories from the 70s & 80s soul scene in a repeat play of the show on Gateway from 5pm this Saturday.
