Southend United beat the Wycombe Wanderers in penalties on Saturday night after drawing 1-1 at the Wembley Stadium. It was a tight match and fans from both sides were nervous for the result of the play-off final.
The Blues are heading to League One next season and they celebrated with the fans by driving through Southend on an open-top bus yesterday (25/05/15).
Victoria Avenue was full of flags, scarves and fans and the club boss, Phil Brown was ecstatic. He said it had been “a phenomenal season” and the team had shown “their never-say-die attitude again”. He followed this with, “The young lads and the old lads did themselves proud.”
Fans followed the victory bus to the Roots Hall Ground where the celebrations continued. The people of South Essex are proud of the Shrimpers and look forward to seeing them play football in League One next season.
