19th January 2021
Posted by Johnny Jenkins

Basildon Side by Side is a social movement that has been specifically set up to help improve the lives of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities who live, work and visit the Basildon Borough. The movement also aims to bridge the societal gap that currently exists in our community. Its mission is to:

“Create an enabling environment that supports individuals, groups and communities of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity; to realise their potential, address social isolation, inequality and insecurity, by improving the experiences of those living and working within the Basildon Borough.”

Basildon Side by Side is led by the local BAME community and supported by allies from diverse backgrounds who are all working together to seek this positive change. The organisation focuses on 5 key themes which are:

  • Education and Economic Development
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Hate Crime and Policing
  • Community Cohesion and Engagement
  • Working with Young People.

Basildon Side by Side is holding a virtual mini launch event next week to give people the opportunity to find out more about their aims and how they can get involved. The event is being held on Monday 25 January 2021 from 6.30pm to 8:30pm via Zoom.

The Chair of Basildon Side by Side, Dr Ukpaka, said:

“This is a very exciting and ambitious movement that will make a real difference to BAME people. We would like to encourage as many people as possible from all communities to join us next Monday to find out more about Basildon Side by Side and how you can join us to make a positive impact in our community”
