Listen: Surge in car crime leaves Brits fearful

While in lockdown, increased police monitoring and the majority of the nation being forced to stay at home meant crime rates fell drastically.

However, as lockdown restrictions loosened, crime rates began to rise and with that, so did people’s concerns over crime. In particular, motor crime  – as new research finds that over two thirds of Brits (69%) feel worried about the rise in car thefts, particularly when it comes to keyless car crime.

The financial impact is understandably a cause for the upset but according to new research from GoCompare, is seems that there is an emotional toll taken on Brits when they’re impacted by car crime. So much so, that Brits claimed  having a car stolen was worse than being losing a pet (39%), losing a wedding ring (23%) and even being dumped (33%).

Car thieves are now using more calculated ways to break into our beloved vehicles. Last year, there were a total of 106,642 drivers who listed a car-related theft on their quote through the comparison website. Financially, having our car stolen increases the average Brits insurance by £628.99, with nearly one in five (18%) saying dealing with insurance was the most stressful part of their car being stolen.
