Have your say on plans to improve Laindon town centre

Residents are being asked to give their views on plans to improve Laindon High Road.

Some residents in the area may have received a letter about this giving a deadline for responses as April 30.

This is because the delivery of these letter only resumed last week following the outbreak of coronavirus. They were originally scheduled to be delivered in March alongside the council’s Together Magazine. The new deadline for responses is midnight on Tuesday 30 June.

Laindon Town Centre Working Group, which was established by the Town Centre Revival Committee, is conducting the survey to seek the views on the area around Laindon High Road and Laindon Station. This is so the council can start work on preparing a new town plan for Laindon.

Chair of the working group, Councillor Kerry Smith said:

“When the new shops, GP surgery and offices are built on the area around the former Laindon Shopping Centre, it is important that the area around it is made to look and feel better but also to improve the space between the train station and the new shops.

“Your input is vital to help ensure this is a place you want to shop, visit and relax.”

Conservative councillors, Andrew Schrader and Jeff Henry, encouraged residents to take part in the survey:

“We hope that residents will take this opportunity to engage and give a clear steer to the Council on what they think we should be focusing on. We all want to see pride restored to Laindon and a new town centre that all residents can enjoy.”

The views you give will be used by council officers to produce a full report so that the council can make evidence-based representations to the Government and Essex County Council to obtain the grants and assistance to improve the area.
