MP encourages people to volunteer for Covid-19 vaccine trials

To date, approximately 270,000 people across the UK have signed up to participate in Covid-19 studies towards producing a safe and effective vaccine.

However, many thousands more are needed, and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and vulnerable groups – such as those with chronic diseases and the over 65s – are under-represented in trials currently taking place.

Researchers are accordingly calling for more people from these groups to come forward and take part in these vital clinical trials.

John Baron MP said:

“British research is at the forefront of the international push to find and develop effective treatments and vaccines against Covid-19. However, vaccines are no good if researchers can not prove they are safe and effective, and I pay tribute to the very many public-spirited volunteers who have already come forward to play their part in these efforts.”

“Researchers are particularly looking for volunteers from minority backgrounds and from amongst the over-65s. I would therefore particularly encourage people in these groups to consider participating in these vital trials.”
