Christmas & New Year Travel Information 2012/13

Roads:

B1014 Canvey Road and Ferry Road on Canvey Island closed in both directions between Waterside Roundabout and Church Corner, because of bridge maintenance work at Benfleet Station. Diversion in operation – the only access on and off Canvey Island is via the A130 Canvey Way.

One lane closed on A130 in both directions in South Benfleet at A13 Sadlers Farm Roundabout, because of major roadworks. Also affecting The Strategic Link at Sadlers Farm Roundabout.

Major roadworks on A13 Stanford-Le-Hope in both directions at A1014 The Manorway.

Buses:

On the 27th, 28th & 29th of December, routes 3, 21, 22, 26, 27 and 28 on FirstGroup will be affected by the closure of Ferry Road on Canvey Island. These services will terminate/start from Benfleet Rail Station. A shuttle service will be operating.

Thursday 27th December 2012: Saturday service.
Friday 28th December 2012: Saturday service.
Saturday 29th December 2012: Normal Saturday service.
Sunday 30th December 2012: Normal Sunday service.
‘New Year’s Eve’ Monday 31st December 2012: Saturday service.
‘New Year’s Day’ Tuesday 1st January 2013: No service.
Wednesday 2nd January 2013: Normal Monday to Friday service.

c2c Benfleet Bridge Renewal:

The 100-year-old rail bridge at Benfleet station will be replaced by Network Rail this Christmas in a major engineering project which will enable c2c services to continue running as normal next year.

The improvement works will mean that trains will not run between Leigh-on-Sea and Pitsea from the close of service on Christmas Eve to the start of service on New Year’s Eve. c2c will however, be providing alternative travel options between Thursday 27th December and Sunday 30th December as follows:

The bridge being replaced by Network Rail forms part of the platform at Benfleet station and crosses over Ferry Road. So while the station itself is closed, the booking office will remain open as normal for the Christmas and New Year period for ticket sales including season ticket renewals.

There will be rail replacement bus services provided between Leigh-on-Sea and Pitsea, with both a direct fast service and a stopping bus serving Benfleet provided.

A direct bus services is provided from Canvey Island to Pitsea station instead of Benfleet to provide a faster connection to London-bound trains.

Although c2c tickets to London via Southend Central are cheaper than those via Southend Victoria, c2c tickets will still be valid and accepted on Greater Anglia services to London via Southend Victoria, and on selected local bus routes as well.

Specific Travel Information and Advice:

Benfleet: Take the c2c replacement bus service to Pitsea for onward c2c train service to London or the replacement bus service to Leigh on Sea for journeys to Southend Central and beyond.

Canvey Island: Take the c2c replacement bus service direct to Pitsea for the onward c2c train service to London or if travelling eastwards to southend and beyond take the fast direct bus to Leigh on Sea and then the onward c2c train from there.

The Canvey Island to Pitsea replacement bus service will start at Leigh Beck and call at all First number 22 route bus stops via Link road to the A130/B1014 roundabout then fast to Pitsea.

Trains will continue to operate on the remainder of the c2c route, between London Fenchurch Street via both Grays and Laindon and from Shoeburyness to Leigh-on-Sea.

Specific Travel Information and Advice:

Thursday 27th and Friday 28th December 2012:

Saturday service with extra trains at peak time, and replacement buses operating between Pitsea and Leigh-on-Sea. A direct bus services is provided from Canvey Island to Pitsea station instead of Benfleet to provide a faster connection to London-bound trains.

The Canvey Island to Pitsea replacement bus service will start at Leigh Beck and call at all First number 22 route bus stops via Link Road and Waterside Farm to the A130/B1014 Canvey Way roundabout then fast to Pitsea.

Times from Canvey Leigh Beck are 04:06, 04:50, 05:20, 05:50 and then every 15 minutes until 20:50 then every half hour. Replacement buses for Benfleet will be serving School Lane and Essex Way stops to north of station.

c2c tickets will be valid and accepted on Greater Anglia services to London via Southend Victoria, and on selected local bus routes as well.


Saturday 29th December 2012: Saturday service with replacement buses operating between Pitsea and Leigh-on-Sea.

Sunday 30th December 2012: Sunday service with replacement buses operating between Pitsea and Leigh-on-Sea.

‘New Years Eve’ Monday 31st December 2012: Saturday service with extra trains at peak time.

‘New Years Day’ Tuesday 1st January 2013: Saturday service with extra trains at peak time and the entire line reopened.

Wednesday 2nd January 2013: Normal weekday services resume.

Improvements:

Weekend and many late night trains lengthened to 8 carriages to provide extra capacity for people returning from London.

Additional trains stopping at Stratford on the weekend before Christmas and between Christmas and New Year, to provide improved access to the Westfield shopping centre.

Extra late night trains on New Year’s Eve to help people get home from celebration events.

Greater Anglia:

Thursday 27th December 2012 and Friday 28th December 2012: A normal weekday service will operate except 13:10 Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street – this train will not call at Romford.

Saturday 29th December 2012: Train services will operate every 30 minutes between Southend Victoria and London Liverpool Street. Southminster to Wickford services will run hourly providing connections at Wickford for London Liverpool Street.

Sunday 30th December 2012: Due to overhead line renewal work taking place, buses replace trains before 08:10.

‘New Year’s Eve’ Monday 31st December 2012: A normal Monday service will operate.

‘New Year’s Day’ Tuesday 1st January 2013: A Sunday timetable will be in operation calling additionally at Prittlewell.

Wednesday 2nd January 2013: Normal weekday services resume.

DLR:

No service between Canning Town and Beckton and between Shadwell and Bank until Friday 28th December 2012. Replacement bus services operate.
