Fire at popular nightlife hotspot Festival Leisure Park

Firefighters have been called to a blaze at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park.

Two fire crews were called the popular nightlife area just before 4:30pm on Tuesday afternoon with reports of the Sky Bar being alight. The bar is currently being transformed into a new nightclub following the closure earlier this year of Liquid, Envy, JJs and New York New York.

The old building’s of the former nightclub is currently being renovated into a number of bars, restaurants and a children’s soft play area. The building work is expected to be completed by early next year.

As part of tackling the blaze East of England Ambulance service sent one ambulance, and ambulance car and it’s hazardous area response team to the scene.

The fire is believed to have started after a compressor on the roof set alight.
