Saturday’s MAYFEST in Basildon Town Square on Saturday was a great success.

46 Local Charity and Community organisations attended plus 7 retail stalls
There was everything there from Model Railways to Scuba Diving, to Service Organisations and many different community organisations for the care and welfare of the young upwards to those who are elderly.

Entertainment started at 11.30 am with the Essex Army Cadet Band marching through from Westgate into the Town Centre where they gave a static performance and again at 1.30 pm. At 12 o’clock there was a demonstration by the young people of Maru Karate Kai.

Following this Basildon Operatic Society gave a rendition from the ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ that they will be performing at the Palace Theatre, Westcliff.
Strollercise, followed at 1 pm wth their exercise come dancing which proved popular to watch.

Ar 2 pm The George Hurd Choir then entertained with some of their favourite songs.

2.30 pm saw the Tribal Unity American Style Belly Dancers, who were very popular at last years event once again showing us how to belly dance.

Strollercise came back again to finish off the performances of the day with another 30 minute performance.

Danny Lovey, the main organiser of the event from the Rotary Club of Basildon Concord said ” Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, the weather was kind with only a few spots of rain. This is the second year we have run the event for which the main purpose is to give local Charities and Community organisations an opportunity to showcase themselves to the people of the Basildon Borough and create the awareness of what goes on for the community and hopefully attract more people to help and assist and have some fun with the work they do in the community”.
