Woman dies after fatal three-car crash on A13

Police are appealing for witnesses to a three car fatal crash on the A1089 Dock Approach Road, Orsett. A 22 year old woman has died and two men have been arrested. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The collision occurred where the A1089 joins the A13, London bound slip road at 2.45pm on Saturday, December 15. A BMW collided with a VW Golf and then struck a Vauxhall Astra. The Golf left the road to the nearside, struck a lamp post and rolled down a steep embankment.

The Golf was driven by a 21 year old man from the Grays area. He received serious chest and shoulder injuries and was taken by ambulance to The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. His passengers were a 22 year old woman from north London and a three year old girl from Grays. The woman was certified dead at the scene of the crash. The three year old girl was also taken to The Royal London Hospital where she is being treated for minor injuries.

The people in the Vauxhall Astra were a couple in their 60s from Tilbury. The male driver was conveyed to Basildon Hospital with minor injuries, and his female passenger was uninjured.

The BMW car contained two men aged 20 from Tilbury and 21 from Stanford Le Hope who were both arrested. The 20 year old was later released on bail. The 21 year old man remains in police custody to be further question on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The A1098 on slip to the A13 London bound track was shut for approx seven hours while the collision was investigated and the vehicles recovered.
