F1 News Update

On Monday 8th June, Gateway 97.8 Radio Club member Charlie presented a Formula One update on Daytime with Aston Avery. The update explores the latest news in the sport including the latest news on how the sport is adapting to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Here was what was mentioned on this week’s update:

  1. F1 have confirmed the opening 8 races of the 2020 season. The season will start on Sun 5th July 2020 in Austria followed by races in Hungry, Britain, Spain, Belgium and Italy. The season will feature two back to back weekends with Austria and Silverstone running two races each both behind closed doors. All races will be held behind closed doors in line with the Covid 19 guidelines.

2. Famous F1 outfit, Williams have lost 13 Million Pound in the last year. The team ,which has been in the sport since 1977, has struggled in recent seasons and endured a woeful 2019 season only scoring 1 point from 21 races. The team also parted ways with title sponsor Rokit earlier in 2020. The team will also have to get a new livery ahead of the first race of the 2020 season on July 5th in Austria.

3. Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team are running a private test a Silverstone as they gear up for the 2020 F1 season. Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes teammate Bottas will drive the 2018 Mercedes W09 around Silverstone Circuit as they hammer in shakedown laps ahead of the first race following the Coronavirus shutdown. The team will also practice social distancing measures ahead of the first race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on the 5th July 2020.
