Glance to the past: 2010- we look back to nearly 5 years of Gateway

17th April 2015

After the station launched on 25th September 2010, the Gateway team were ready for a great year in 2011.
2011 was a brilliant year for Gateway 97.8 and everybody enjoyed brilliant music and brilliant radio in the year when the Royal Wedding took place and Amy Winehouse passed away. The busiest day of the year was when the London riots took place in August!
Gateway Community Radio won a Big Society Award and went on to meet The Prime Minister the following year! For more information on this accolade, you can click here.
On the 1st April 2011, the community radio station was awarded with a big lottery grant for the fantastic work that it had provided in Basildon and East Thurrock. This enabled the studios to be adapted for the courses it provided. When the grant was won, Business Development Manager Danny Lawrence commented “This is the second time we have had a lottery grant and the project does so much for the local community.” This really was the next big step for the station after winning the High Sheriff Award before this.
By now, the people of Basildon and East Thurrock were learning what Gateway 97.8 was and how they can get involved in this voluntary community radio station.2011 lottery grant
HRH the Duke of Gloucester visited the studio on 17th May in 2011 and was pleasantly suprised at the efficiency of the station and met the staff and presenters. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all.2011 duke hrh
