Dr Zoe Williams on smokefree families iniative

Although the number of people that smoke cigarettes in the UK has steadily declined in recent years, Future Health research shows an estimated 1.8 million households in England with children still have at least one smoker. Now, new figures from Kenvue in the UK show that nearly three-quarters of smoking parents in the UK (71%) have either tried to quit or plan to in the next 3 months.

Despite this, it’s not easy to kick the habit as over 3 in 10 (31%) parents who smoke (or used to) believe that there’s not enough quitting support for smokers out there, and nearly a quarter (22%) don’t even know where to go for support.

Through its Smokefree Families initiative, Kenvue is calling for the new government to urgently implement measures to support smokers, to reduce the number of babies born into smoking households and help more families to become smokefree.
