John Suchet calls for specialist dementia training
Dementia is the country’s leading cause of death. Around a million people (944,000) are living with dementia in the UK today, a figure set to increase to 1.6 million by 2040, with the annual cost to the UK economy expected to reach £90 billion by 2040. It is a rising problem that needs addressing.
It marks the first time a major banking provider has offered face-to-face dementia clinics and will see Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses on the high street, within the UK’s largest branch network.
Research from Nationwide shows more than half (59%) of dementia carers were concerned about the impact the condition would have on their finances. Furthermore, the number one ask of banks and building societies by dementia carers was for a dementia friendly environment in branches (48%).
