Neil Gits To 700

Yes, it’s that time again – another ‘landmark’ show on Gateway ! I am not exactly making a song and dance about this one (although of course there are some very good songs on the playlist which you could have a good dance to if you wish!) – the 700th show somehow doesn’t sound as impressive as the 500th one did a few years ago and being an “even numbers man” the 600th looks a bit nicer on paper too ! But there’s no disputing it – I’ve been an ‘Old Git’ for quite a long while now – it will in fact be 14 years next month !

Although I was one of the originals from our first week of permanent live FM broadcasts in 2010, there is someone else on air at Gateway who I am sure has done more weekly programmes than I have … a) because I have had the cheek to take a few very rare Mondays off over the years and b) because he pre-records his show so never misses a week ! Ashwyn Smyth presents “Digital Blues” at 9pm every Wednesday and I reckon must be up to about 715 by now !

He often gets a mention on the show by ‘liking’ my posts on Facebook as do a couple of the other members of the team (I am sure long time listeners will know which ones!) and you can also secure your spot on the ‘Soulful Roll Call’ by doing the same or maybe getting in touch another way. It doesn’t matter whether you are a loyal regular, a soul fan who’s only just discovered the show, someone who I know from school or football days past or even one of the artists whose songs I’ve played (yes, that has happened too !), everyone is welcome to join in the fun !
