F1 update – Italian GP

Round 16 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the famous Monza Autodromo Circuit near Milan for the Italian Grand Prix.

The tifosi went home extremely happy thanks to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc taking his second victory of they year, he headed home the 2 McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris who finished second and third respectively.

Italian GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 2nd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 3rd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 4th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 5th: Sir Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes

Other highlights:

  • Haas’s Kevin Magnussen received a 10 second time penalty for colliding with Pierre Gasly’s Alpine.
  • RB’s Daniel Ricciardo received a 5 second time penalty for colliding with Haas’s Nico Hulkenberg and then a further 10 seconds for failing to serve his penalty properly.
  • RB’s Yuki Tsunoda would retire on lap 8 due to overheating problems with the car.

News:

  • Haas’s Kevin Magnussen has been given a 1 race ban for amassing too many penalty points his super license which means he misses the next race.
  • Mercedes announced that Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli will race with the team from 2025 partnering George Russell.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held on the streets of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 13th to 15th September.
