New interactive map from RSPCA highlights impact fireworks have on pets

A new interactive map launched today will allow users to see the estimated number of cats and dogs in their area who could be impacted by a local garden firework display.

The map, created by the RSPCA, also shows the decibel level at which animals would hear the fireworks based on their proximity to the display.

It comes as figures show as many as 14 million Brits are planning to have private displays at home or with family and friends to mark Bonfire Night – while a further 22 million are expected to attend public firework events.

The figures are released the day before firework season begins, when legislation on firework sales in the UK relaxes.

In response, the RSPCA has launched a new campaign urging people to become “Kind Sparks” – as new research shows half of pet-owners say Bonfire Night is one of the most stressful days of the year.

Aston spoke to Carrie Stones, campaigns manager at RSPCA & psychologist Jess Baker.
