Are you aware of testosterone deficiency?

Testosterone deficiency affects millions of men in the UK, with levels declining in those aged 40 years and over at around 1% per year.

Despite low testosterone being a common condition that may affect up to 25% of the ageing male population, it remains a topic few men like to discuss – leading to significant challenges in reaching those with symptoms of testosterone deficiency and who may require treatment.

Now a new campaign hopes to encourage more men to talk openly about the condition with friends and family. Currently, just 34% talk to their partner or spouse if they have concerns with 61% preferring to speak to their GP. No wonder 80% say that testosterone deficiency can negatively affect their mental health.

It comes as new research from Numan has found there is a lack of awareness of the condition with more than half (57%) of older men (aged 55 and over) unaware of testosterone deficiency. More widely, two thirds of men (32%) say they do not know what it is.

Ari spoke to Dr Ben Davis, GP and testosterone expert from Numan.
