Daytime presenter Aston Avery went to see the Basildon Towngate Theatre pantomine Jack and the Beanstalk and here is his review of the show:

“It was a real privillage to have gone to see the pantomine Jack and the Beanstalk on 6th December at the Towngate Theatre with a good friend of mine as well.

The show itself was really, really good from the off!! Fairy Sugarsnap’s (played by Sophia Ragavelas) singing voice is out of this world and the characterisation was protrayed very cleverly as well. The costumes especially for Dame Trott (played by Ian Hallard) was designed extremely well (especially after I got picked to be the dame’s man in her life for the whole show lol), the acting side of it was brilliantly played as well. The villain (Luka Backinanger played by Sophie Ladds) was a top draw in regards to acting and showing a menacing side of things including it’s subplot.

The characters played of Jess & Billy (Jess played by Alice Hoult and Billy played by Ashley Cavender) were played extremely well, even Billy who definitely drew the audience in. Jess was played extremely very, very well especially at a very pivital moment in the production itself.

Who could forget the main character, the hero that is Jack (played by Aiden Banyard). The way he was played was brilliant!!

The setting, the scenes used in the show are absolutely out of this world and esepcially the gags and music side of it this year was cleverly placed.

This clearly one panto you wouldn’t to miss this year and it’s up there amongst the best!!

I would give the whole show a 5 star rating for this year!!!!!”
