TikTok star Dr Idz chats about our health resolutions

January is the time when many of us are making pledges to kickstart 2025 with a healthier outlook on both our diet and lifestyle.

In fact, one in four Brits will set themselves New Year’s resolutions each year – with the top three involving eating more healthily (45%), exercising more (44%) and losing weight (37%).

When it comes to ‘new year, new me’ health promises, many of us may be re-evaluating our relationship with one key ingredient – sugar – with the average UK adult having consumed 350g of sugar within the first 9 days of the year.

Despite the recommended daily allowance (RDA) being just 30g, research from the British Soft Drinks Association reveals that Brits believe they consume an average of 38g of sugar daily, almost a third more than the RDA. Younger adults are also likely to consumer more sugar than other age group, with 16–24-year-olds reporting consumption of 45g of sugar daily (50% more than the RDA). There is also a chance that people under-report their sugar intake, meaning the true intake could be even higher.

Aston spoke to TikTok star and nutrition expert Dr Idrees Mughal a.k.a Dr Idz.
