Neil Gits Woken By The Heating

Well, it’s certainly been a cold week and like everyone else I’ve been trying to keep the house warm but without running up a huge fuel bill in February ! I had my boiler serviced about a year ago and a new radiator installed to replace one that was very old and started leaking, so when we do get a seriously chilly spell of weather, it all kicks into life very nicely…

If I am indoors all day when it’s freezing outside, I tend to pump it up for a couple of hours in the morning, then turn it off and run it again for another two in the afternoon, then as my house retains heat pretty well, that usually sees me through, with possibly a cheeky little boost late at night to warm up the bedroom before going to sleep … but I have to remember to turn it off again or risk waking up in a sauna at about 5am in the morning !

My road is fairly quiet as a rule and I can usually sleep through most of the familiar car noise in the early hours, so normally get an undisturbed seven hours kip, but an “unusual” sound can disrupt that, even if it’s quieter than passing traffic. Obviously when I turn my heating “off” I don’t set it at zero degrees for risk of my pipes freezing up, so 10 degrees is my go-to setting and the system will only kick in if it’s a REALLY cold night – which it was last night and an otherwise lovely dream was spoilt about 6.20 am by the sound of my house quietly & efficiently going about its work to keep me cosy ! At least I know my cunning plan does actually work …

This afternoon’s plan is to get Monday’s show prepared extra early so I can indulge in most of the FA Cup football on TV this weekend ! So far, so good and I have finished this blog just in time for you to read it while enjoying this week’s “Repeat Play” at 5pm on Saturday …
