Neil Gits Too Vigorous

24th January 2025
Posted by Neil Matthew

I have many little things that I do and routines that I follow on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis which may seem a bit trivial to the untrained eye, but they work for me and keep my everyday life running as smoothly as possible. For instance, once I started wearing glasses I soon realized that they get a bit grubby and trying to see through them without cleaning them was about as useless as not wearing them at all !

Now every morning when I get up and start preparing for the day ahead, one of the first things I do is give them a really good wipe with a soft cloth. I spend a fair bit of time on my PC at “Old Gits HQ” and it gets really fustrating when I make the odd typo because there is a small mark on the lens (not because I am getting old & past it at all … ) necessitating an extra quick once over mid-afternoon. When I’ve had that happen, I tend to be extra thorough the next morning but a few weeks ago I overdid it !

Trying to get every single last microscopic particle off the right lens, my glasses fell apart in my hand, and I had to immediately head down to Asda where my optician, a particularly helpful young chap, is based & has assisted in similar scenarios before, tightening up the world’s smallest screw ! This time he surpassed himself (it was a Wednesday, he might have been bored!) and not only found a new screw, but tightened all the other ones, two of which I didn’t even know existed, as well as giving both lenses a professional clean up. On top of this, he also offered to give my spare pair of slightly imperfect old glasses a check-up after I’d mentioned I had them with me on standby in case there was a major problem which could not be fixed on the day. All FREE of charge too … that’s Asda Price !!

My glasses have had a good workout today as I have been doing a bit of early prep for next Monday’s live show, with extra commitments in the diary over the weekend. It’s looking like another top show and in the last couple of weeks listeners have been pleasantly complimentary in their feedback on the music chosen. To hear what all the fuss is about visit the “Listen Again” section and search out ‘Cool Soul’ , plus there is a ‘Repeat Play’ of the most recent show at 5pm tomorrow (Saturday) …
