The clocks go forward this weekend, which means I won’t get to enjoy my “Wonderful Wonderful Wickford Town” experience for a while now on my weekly drives into Basildon. In the last few weeks, as the evenings have got gradually lighter, there have been two or three quite unexpectedly amazing sunsets on the horizon as I briefly head west from my home across the town and on to Gateway’s studios. Shame I was driving through the rush hour and couldn’t stop once to grab a photo !
Last Monday, I unfortunately had to deal with the downside of that scenario. It was the week when the daylight had lingered that little bit longer and at my usual journey time , the sun was just “pre-sunset” as low in the sky as it could get – and right in my line of vision, almost blinding me ! There are other times of the day & year on roads I use a lot on my travels where I have had the same issue and I do wish I had thought twice & started off later or earlier to avoid the dazzling sun hitting me straight between the yes – not ideal driving conditions !
The A12 heading out of Chelmsford is one, the A13 towards London near Orsett is another and the A132 approaching the Rettendon turnpike really sees the traffic in front slowing down – nature’s own speed humps !! I’ve already put my warm woolly hat back in the cup board till next winter and its place in the “Neil-Mobile” has been taken by my trusty shades, which hopefully will get plenty of use as the sun returns on a regular basis and Spring turns into Summer…
