Listen: tips and advice on battling hay fever

The sun is out, BBQ’s are on and it’s the perfect opportunity to spend some time in the sun… unless you suffer from hay fever.

The Met Office has issued a red warning to hay fever sufferers this week, with temperatures set to rise above 20C on Thursday and the pollen level set at VERY HIGH.

The warning of very high or high counts of birch and ash pollen will last until at least Friday in the West Midlands, London and South East England, South West England and Wales.

Hay fever is most commonly caused by grass pollens, although other pollens – of which there are around 30 – can also trigger symptoms.

Aston spoke to GP and hay fever specialist Dr Roger Henderson.
