Lynsey Crombie highlights National Laundry Day
In honour of National Laundry Day – Tuesday 15th April, new research reveals UK adults are spending a staggering 5,038 hours over their lifetime doing laundry, and it’s no wonder when 75% are washing clothes they’ve barely worn, with 45% admitting to doing this once a week or more.
The data lifts the lid on some more shocking laundry confessions, as half (50%) of men admit they have worn the same underwear two days in a row, compared to just 25% of women. In addition, almost half of people (48%), confess they’ve left wet washing in the machine for much too long and 30% of men have never cleaned the drum of the washing machine at all.
Furthermore, laundry squabbles show just how much washing weighs on the nation’s minds (and hampers), with 30% of men admitting to bickering over doing the laundry, compared to just 20% of women. Whereas 16–24-year-olds often avoid it completely, with over half (58%) still relying on their parents to tackle their washing pile.
