I probably have more fans than you would expect. I had a bit of a count up this week and it came to nearly ten. My most important ones are at home – a big one, a medium sized one and a fairly small one, kept in the bedroom, living room and the ‘office’ respectively, plus there are two that stay in the studio – a really tall one and and a tiny little one. Elsewhere there is the one I share with A13 Annie when I visit her each week … not forgetting the one in the car and the one built into my PC, as well as the one in the oven which unlike the others helps heat things up rather than cool them down !
It’s no secret that I struggle to cope with the peak summer months, June is always the worst for hayfever for me, though I’ve had very few problems with that over the last five years or so – that could be a stress related thing, as I haven’t worked for over five years now !! The real heat comes in July & August and there is always a short spell somewhere across those two months when the tempearture hits stupid levels and I just have to stop everything and survive ! I thought I had been handling some fairly hot days in the early 20s over the last month pretty well, but this week – wallop ! A 20 minute walk to Sainsburys in 27/28 degrees knocked me for six and once I’d limped home it was time for “Operation Cooldown” …
Now everything is set for Summer 2025, the fans are in place, the shorts are out of the drawers and there are towels standing by to mop up any major perspiration ! Unfortunately, just when my energy bills had reduced due to not having any heating on since early April, there is a danger of stacking up a big bill by using my fans too much, but as needs must …. For now, as today is a bit cooler, I have upped my nasal spray & eye drops and risked opening the windows for a while to let a gentle breeze (and no doubt a few unwelcome insects!) sweep through “Old Gits HQ” before resorting to the “Big Button Push” but so far, so good – and on with preparing Monday’s next super soulful selections.
