Are Brits aware of the link between alcohol and cancer?
New research from the World Cancer Research Fund, the leading charity for cancer prevention, reveals a shocking lack of public awareness around the link between alcohol and cancer – with only 1 in 14 Brits able to name cancer as a health risk for drinking.
Despite alcohol being linked to at least seven types of cancer, including breast, bowel, and liver, the nationwide poll shows that a quarter of UK adults (25%) falsely think there are no health risks attached to drinking alcohol.
The findings come as the charity wants to emphasise the connection between alcohol and cancer by launching Cancer Prevention Action Week (23–29 June) to challenge misconceptions and urge the Government to act.
Aston spoke to Kendra Chow, senior policy & public affair manager at World Cancer Research Fund.
