Is poor hearing the cause of arguments?

What’s the phrase you say most often to your partner? For couples over 55, it’s not “I love you” – it’s “What?”

According to new research from Specsavers, nearly half (46%) of us have argued with our partners because we couldn’t hear each other properly, with the majority (86%) saying it leaves them feeling frustrated, ignored, or even unloved.

A third (36%) admit they argue every week due to mishearing, and one in six (14%) have stopped talking to each other altogether. For some, it’s a daily frustration – 15% say they’re misunderstood at least once a day, with one amusing example being someone bringing home ‘bread’ instead of their son ‘Fred’.

Ros spoke to Sonam Sehemby, head of clinical training at Specsavers.
